Take a field trip with Utopia Joe TV while Country Western Star Singer/Songwriter Matt Bowlin sings “Honeymoon Huckleberry” The cast Joe & Tiffany Bohrer, and Bruce Buchner travel to Eischen’s Bar in Okarche for the best fried chicken in the world and Stroh’s Surplus Store for art parts, while Jason Holste films the landscape, shoppin’ and finger lickin’.

That’s right, he’s heading back into the studio the first week of November with a pocket full of tunes.  It will be the first recording session Matt Bowlin has had since cutting a few tracks in Jasper, Tennessee. This time he plans to record a diverse group of songs complimenting his musical influences.

“I’d like to get a few different genres in to mix it up some, ” Matt said, “I have a southern rock song I wrote in a snowed-in, 100 year old Hotel in Wyoming.  It reminded me of that movie, “The Shining” with Jack Nicholson, only none of us went crazy.  We were learning a song by Cross Canadian Ragweed and one by Shooter Jennings so I wound up writing one with that sort of edge.  Southern Rock is pretty close to Country anyway.” 

Southern rock, western swing, and even some folk are all new works Matt plans on recording with Travis Linville at the ‘Dirty Bird Recording Studio’ in Norman, Oklahoma.  But that’s not all, local Oklahoma City Blues Band ‘AJ Johnson and Why Not’ will join him at the ‘Destinations Recording Studio’ in OKC to cut a blues number that’s been in the works for almost 2 years. 

“I have this song a friend of mine wrote to have me record,” “ Bowlin explained. “It’s a knock-out of a song and one I’ve been aiming to record for close to a few years.  Deciding to record a blues song with a blues band seemed second nature.  It’s about a card game, that’s all I’m saying so you’ll just have to wait.”

Matt hopes to have the songs finished and mastered by late November.

Tired of the same ole ”the sky is falling” news at 10?  Enjoy art, music, power tools, jokes, and eye candy?  Beginning October 20th, Matt will be featured on a few episodes of UTOPIA JOE, a new show airing on the PBS station OETA in Oklahoma City.  The show features an urban-style approach to creative design using almost anything you can plug into a wall, plenty of ink, lots of paint and building materials of both new and found.  It’s like Bob Ross meets Jesse James, meets Bob Villa, meets Howard Stern (without the language) and is accompanied with music by local bands and artists here in the land of “Red Dirt”.  You’ll see and hear bands like: The Oh Johnny! Matt Bowlin will be playing at Cheeseburger In Paradise Saturday, September 6th and Friday the 27th in Oklahoma City, OK.  Under the influence and ownership of Jimmy Buffet, the restaurant features an indoor and outdoor atmosphere complete with a large tiki bar,  patio and plenty of seating for dinning out or an evening out with friends.

Matt took the stage at the Wormy Dog Saloon in Bricktown, Oklahoma City, on May 14. He played an acoustic set, performing mostly originals, including the crowd-favorite “Jim Beam in My Canteen Cup.”
